Time Management and Work Load
Stay on Track!
CBUS offers a modular approach to biblical studies where courses are clustered by topic for maximum integration and learning. Each course within the module is designed to be taken sequentially or concurrently so that students can build upon prior or parallel learning. The timeframe for completion of each course is 6 months. CBUS requires that students be continuously enrolled and active in coursework if pursuing a degree.
The CBUS Advantage
Universities utilizing a semester system typically calculate one semester at 16 weeks (full term minus 1 week for the final exam). However, since CBUS is distance learning, we are able to utilize the full year and calculate the length of one semester at 25 weeks. This allows for a tremendous study time advantage for our students. In fact, our students have approximately 55% more time to complete the same amount of work! As you review the course schedules below, you will see that even our full time students would require less that 35 hours per week of study.
Recommended Course Schedule
A recommended course schedule breakdown is provided to each student. It shows the average number of hours of study time each week required to complete the program. It also shows the total number and type of courses that should be taken each semester. To view an online copy, please select one of the degree program names listed below.

Academic Load
We strongly recommend that you register for all courses within a given semester according to the Recommended Course Schedule. Students should also pace their coursework according to the six month maximum time limit required for completion. Students who do not stay within this framework are in danger of falling behind and possibly not completing their degree program.
Will CBUS let me take just one class at a time?
You will not be able to complete a degree program by registering for only one class per semester. You may initially think that you will be able to pace yourself to complete a course in a much shorter timeframe than six months, and then complete subsequent courses soon enough to stay on track to degree completion. However, with distance learning, accountability for this shortened timeframe is solely in your hands, and the majority of students will fall behind. CBUS strongly recommends that you register for all courses in the Recommended Course Schedule per semester at the beginning of each semester.
What should I do if I am falling behind in my course hour requirements for my degree program?
You will need to take more academic hours per semester than originally planned until you have caught up with the Recommended Course Schedule. If you need assistance, please contact an Academic Advisor via email at academics@cbusedu.org.
Required Reading in CBUS Courses
Books for CBUS must be purchased at an online bookstore of the student's choice. The required reading material is referenced on each CBUS syllabus. However, to accomodate the mail time for the book order from non-CBUS bookstores, the required reading lists for both undergraduate, graduate and doctorate courses are available for your reference prior to course enrollment.
