Doctor of Biblical Apologetics

The Doctor of Biblical Apologetics (DBA) is a 51-hour two-year minimum degree requirement. This program contains two doctorate-level exams and an applied research project.

The DBA degree program has three main goals in view:

  • Educational Goals
  • Spiritual Goals
  • Ministry Goals
How does the DBA differ from a Ph.D.?

The DBA is one of many fine theological doctorates available today such as Doctor of Sacred Theology, Doctor of Ministry, etc. Each theological doctorate has a special area of research and competence. The DBA is specifically designed for those who desire to excel in understanding and developing the apologetics revealed in the Bible as opposed to all humanistic-based apologetic systems.

A secular university grants a Doctor of Philosophy for understanding and development in non-theological subjects such as philosophy, biology, history, drama, etc. CBUS created the DBA specifically for those in Christian ministry such as pastors, church planters, evangelists, teachers, and apologists.

What is the purpose of the DBA?

The purpose of the DBA program is to equip the next generation of faithful pastors, church planters, evangelists, teachers, apologists, etc. with the biblical tools needed for effective ministry. CBUS stands in the tradition of the Reformers, the Puritans, the evangelical giants such as Spurgeon, Whitefield, great apologists such as Gordon Clark, Francis Schaeffer, Gleason Archer, Carl Henry, etc. Francis Schaeffer warned Dr. Morey that the day would come when the humanists would take over apologetics. Sadly, we have lived to see his prediction come true. We believe that God raised up CBUS for such a time as this in order to counter the humanists who have taken over our schools and churches. Liberalism comes in many different forms but it has always had a killing affect on evangelical doctrine, life, and ministry. But CBUS will not sell out, compromise, retreat or give way to humanism in any of its religious or secular forms. The DBA is for those who likewise want to remain faithful to the Biblical worldview in an age of unbelief and apostasy.

What is the foundation of the DBA?

The foundation of the DBA is first and foremost the Biblical position of “Sola Scriptura.” The student will be evaluated, instructed, and approved on this essential and fundamental position.
