Another One Bites the Dust

A recent news item has come across my desk that underscores the importance of CBUS. A school that we used to trust has gone apostate. An individual that used to be in our midst has gone apostate. Dr. Frank Beckwith has announced that he and his wife have officially converted to Roman Catholicism.

This was no surprise to us because I have accused him for years of being a Jesuit-trained covert Catholic in our midst. Natural theology has always been a Trojan horse constructed by the Jesuits in which the Pope is hiding. Silly Protestants bring this Trojan horse into their philosophy departments, and before long faculty and students embrace the pope, who is the heart of natural theology.

Pray for the Beckwiths as they have now renounced the gospel, trampled the Cross under their feet, and denied the blood of Jesus. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. (Heb 10:31).

Beckwith’s apostasy is further complicated by his being hired by Baylor University, which used to be a Southern Baptist school. I fully expect to hear that his goal at Baylor is to convert Baptist students to Roman Catholicism. Scripture says, it would be better that a millstone be tied around his neck, and that he be cast into the sea (Mark 9:42), than to convert students to the “synagogue of Satan” (Rev. 2:9), which is described by John as “the great whore of Babylon.” (Rev. 17:5)

This is why we need your help to establish CBUS as the leading Bible-believing Reformed university and seminary that does not compromise with Roman Catholicism, Eastern Orthodoxy, liberalism, the ecumenical movement, or Natural Theology. Keep us in your prayers as we are determined to defend “the faith once for all delivered unto the saints” (Jude 3)…without compromise.

CBUS Releases the World Religions Course for Audit

Have any of you been accused by a relative that you have too much religion?  Holy Joe, Crazy Mary, Separated Sally... The world looks at us Christians as being quite crazy.  Why does the world, which is so tolerant of religions and cults, constantly pick on Bible believing Christians?

There are many aspects of life that have to do with personal preference, like choosing what you are going to wear today.  The world has taken religion and has brought it down to the level of personal preference, a favorite ice cream flavor.  You can go in and pick what you like; what makes you feel good. When you are dealing with the issue of personal preference, truth and morals do not apply.

But when Christians run around and say "we have the true religion," we have then taken religion out of the realm of personal preference and made it an issue of truth.  When we say there is such a thing as "bad religion", we have made it an issue of morality, and the world does not want that.

With all the Muslim terrorism going on, the US government and the media are bending over backwards trying to excuse the Muslim clerics who are bombing embassies among many other terrorist acts. They are going around saying "No, no, no, it is not the religion.  Islam is a religion of peace.  These Muslims are actually doing these acts against their religion."  That is the biggest lie; it is the biggest farce!  In the religion of Islam, according to its holy scriptures, in the Qu'ran and the Hadiths, you are supposed to  blow up things and kill people.  That's how the religion was spread!  They slaughtered people and they put the sword to the throat.  The world wants so hard to believe that all religions, Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism and Christianity are no longer in the realm of truth and morals.

We are also seeing a resurgence of Roman Catholicism.  Roman Catholicism as an organization follows the Judaism of the Old Testament instead of the Christianity of the New Testament. In the Church of the Old Testament, the head was the High Priest.  He could alone go into the holy of holies to sprinkle blood on the mercy seat.  He was the mediator between the people  and God.  He decided who lived and who died.  He was the one who secured forgiveness of sin through sacrifice and through intercession. In Roman Catholicism, the head of the church is the Pope.  He is called the vicar of Christ; that is the physical representative from Christ himself.  The Pope is the most important living person on the face of the earth.  He alone can speak infallibly when he speaks from the chair ex cathedra.  He can give new doctrines and new morals.

Reformers had a problem with that...Christ is the head of the church, not the Pope and not the king.  When you turn to the New Testament, it says that Christ is our high priest.  He is the head of the New Testament church.  His headship is heavenly, not earthly.    The Protestant is given his doctrine and morals from Scripture.

Through this comprehensive course, you will hear lectures on Buddhism, Hinduism, Roman Catholicism and Islam. Each student should complete this class having:

  1. a thorough understanding of the various world religions at hand, including their origins,
  2. the ability to academically refute each various religion by using the authority of Scripture,
  3. the experience of practically applying the teaching of Scripture to evangelizing the followers of false religions,
  4. and a clear understanding of the failure of false religions in contrast to the hope of the Gospel

The JBA on Roman Catholocism

Vatican II forever changed the historic Catholic doctrine "Outside the Church there is no salvation." Hell is no longer held over the heads of all non-Catholics.  Instead of burning Protestants at the stake, Protestants are now to be embraced as "separated brethren." An "Ecumenical Jihad" was launched that included defrocking those priests who refused to move from the Council of Tent to Vatican II.  The New Catholic Catechism reafirmed the Church's new attitde of openness toward non-Catholics.  Section 847 states that non-Catholics who "seek God with a sincere heart" and "try in their actions to do his will as they know it through the dictates of their conscience" will "achieve eternal salvation."  In sections 839-845, the Catechism says Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, Muslims, Taoists, animists, etc., can make it to heaven without the necessity of hearing of or believing in Catholicism.  As long as they are sincere in their faith and live a good life, they will make it to heaven.

Dr. Morey reviews the doctrines that are posed in Roman Catholicism in two volumes of the Journal of Biblical Apologetics (JBA).  For a thorough understanding and refutation, the journal is an excellent resource.
