Joy to the World
During the month of December we have a golden opportunity to witness to our relatives, friends, and neighbors. This is why it is so important to say, “Merry Christmas!” instead of “Happy Holidays.” The world is forced to pause in its mad rush toward perdition to consider the birth of Jesus. God in His providence has made Christmas to be the financial basis of over 50% of all retail stores. The average store makes the bulk of its annual income from Christmas sales. This is why the atheists are not successful in rooting Christmas out of our society. Thank God!
Some sincere Christians have been told that Christmas is a pagan celebration. I heard a sermon by a Baptist preacher in which he condemned any and all Christmas celebration. He waxed eloquently in his condemnation, particularly of Christmas trees.
There is nothing wrong with Christians substituting something good in place of something evil. Celebrating the birth of the Messiah in place of some pagan winter solstice festival was the right thing to do. During this Christmas season it is wise to remember God’s gracious gift to us in His Son. The book titled Studies in the Atonement, has been revised and reissued.
