Our Battle is Spiritual
I love it when the Lord vindicates our work by allowing Satan and his dupes to come against us furiously. An Orthodox priest attended the last lecture in the series, “Meeting the Challenge of Eastern Orthodoxy.” He brought five or six people, but did not challenge what I had said during the Q&A period after the lecture. He left the building without making any attempt to meet with me. He arrived the next Monday after the lecture began and handed out literature that not only attacked my lecture series, but also my character and motives. One of my staff stopped him before he could distribute his materials, and rebuked him saying, “Dr. Bob would never interrupt your religious service at your church and hand out literature against you; what you are doing is unethical.” The priest stormed out of the building in great anger.
I am encouraged and excited that my refutation of Eastern Orthodoxy is so powerful that they are already mobilizing to attack me on the Internet as well as in my own church. The Devil has reacted violently to my refutation, which proves that I have hit the nail on the head. Luther once said that if he failed to address where Satan is working he would fail to be a faithful minister of the gospel. Eastern Orthodoxy is a device of Satan that needs to be refuted. CBUS Releases The Cults and the Occult Course
Why was the 19th century so fruitful in producing the main cultic systems that curse the Church today? We must understand why in order that we might understand if those same conditions are happening today. If we do not understand the whys and the wherefores of the past, we can’t understand what’s going on in this time period. When we look at the 19th century, we can learn about the individuals who started various religious movements and how they all interrelate. Campbellism, Christadelphianism, Mormonism, the Church of Christ and the Millerites were created and have in turn spawned the heresies that exist today.
We are in the 21st century and we are in a desperate situation. It is worse now than it was 100 years ago! Secular humanists will claim that there is no rhyme and that there is no reason, no plan to history. History is a train running not on a prearranged track, not with an engineer, but all of us are passengers on a runaway train to nowhere. So, history does not progress, it does not go forward, does not go backward. It is not getting better, it’s not going up, it’s not going down, its’ not evolving or devolving. We are in a meaningless swamp, albeit this or the unrelated, and history has nothing to teach us because history does not display order, meaning, significance, cause and effect. This has infected our seminaries. Where are the great church historians today? Where are people of equal stature with the Lutheran historian, Philip Schaff. Why are theological students and pastors today ignorant of history? Those who are ignorant of history are doomed to repeat it.
The Bible teaches us that history is on a railroad track. Jesus stepped into history at the right time and got off at the right station for His work. In the fullness of time, God sent forth His Son. We are on our way to a specific destination. There is an appointment and a day of judgment. At the end of the line all will get off the train and stand before the King.
