Mission of the University

Mission Statement

California Biblical University and Seminary has the purpose of providing students with a thoroughly God honoring and biblically faithful education. CBUS seeks to apply the Lordship of Jesus Christ to all of life, including all academic subjects and thus, all of our classes will be taught in accordance with the Christian world and life view as revealed in Scripture.

CBUS adheres to the Reformational principle that the Bible is the final authority for doctrine and morals. This is in sharp contrast to the humanistic systems of secular education and the ecumenical (i.e. apostate) “Christian” education that prevails in most Christian colleges and seminaries today.  We reject humanism in all its various forms.

CBUS teaches that God is the measure of all things, not man.  God is the Origin of truth, justice, morals, meaning, and beauty—not man.  Whenever there is a conflict between what God says in the Bible and what humanistic scientists, scholars, theologians, and philosophers say, “Let God be true and every man be exposed as a liar!” (Rom. 3:4)

CBUS endeavors to provide a biblically sound learning experience so that students can obtain the knowledge, skill, and understanding required for success in their professional field.  We believe that all of life is sacred and that whatever field our students seek to minister in, we will provide them with a thoroughly Christian view of the world in order to most effectively glorify Christ and propagate His Gospel: salvation by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, according to God’s word alone, for the glory of God alone.

Credibility of External Studies

In the 1920s, UCLA coined the phrase “Lifelong Learning.”  They were one of the early proponents of continuing education.  As continuing education programs grew, also came the growth of non-traditional education; education offered at non-traditional hours, at remote locations, and in specialized educational packages.

As the adult learners became more mobile, so did education.  More universities began to offer programs in distance or external education.  Early leaders were Nova University, Union Institute, The University of Maryland, and The University of Phoenix.  The University of Phoenix was founded in 1976, and was among the first to offer a complete degree program through external studies.

Initially, these programs were ridiculed by traditional universities, but today they enroll over 125,000 students, and are probably the most imitated program in the nation.  Virtually all large universities now offer some off-campus classes.

With an excellent curriculum and outstanding faculty support at CBUS, the students’ education will be comparable to what they would receive at a traditional university.  Furthermore, courses are designed for the completion of comprehensive degree programs while students remain at home and service to their own community.  All courses are designed to be immediately utilized in the work environment, and programs are updated on a regular basis to provide the very best of materials.
